In special recognition of our World War II veterans.

Memorial Day began as a way to remember soldiers who died for the United States.  This year, we also have the privilege of honoring our World War II Veterans by way of the newly dedicated World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.   This beautiful memorial forms a circle around a central fountain.  Each pillar in the circle represents a State of the Union.  The pillars are drawn together by a bronze-like rope, symbolizing the unity of the nation in the war effort.  Arches on opposite sides of the circle represent the Atlantic and Pacific theatres of the war.  Gold colored stars on a curving wall honor our military men and women who died in this war. Although this Memorial is very late in coming, it will leave a permanent impression on those who see it, all of whom have so benefited from the sacrifice of these men and women.

Memorial Park Dedication

When you lose someone precious to you, your biggest fear is that they're going to be forgotten. People will walk by and they won't know the name on the bench or the bricks, but they'll read it and they'll pause, and they'll remember that somebody made a sacrifice.

 ~~~In loving Memory~~~
Tyra Knox-age 7 years
In August of 2003, Tyra lived in Frayser, Tennessee. She was a member of a large and loving family. She loved bubble gum, jump rope and Bratz and Barbie dolls. This sweet and bright 2nd grader was happily riding her pink scooter in front of her own home when she disappeared.
Tobias Johnson, age 23, a former neighbor, confessed to killing Tyra.  He snatched her off her scooter and dragged her into an abandoned house right across the street from her home. There he molested and suffocated her. Johnson, who has a history of sex crimes against children, was indicted for 1st degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated child abuse. The district attorney will seek the death penalty for the murder of Tyra.
Mary Jennifer Love –age 6 years
In June of 1998, Mary Lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was called “The Hugger” by her loving family and her neighbors at the apartment complex where she lived. This was because she was so friendly and so generous with her hugs and smiles. Mary loved jump rope and had just finished kindergarten.
A neighbor lured her into his apartment in the same complex. Ralph Lynch, a former sex offender, molested and suffocated Mary and discarded her body in the trash a few miles away. For the next few weeks, he actually participated in the search for Mary. However, during questioning by the police, he confessed to her murder and led police to little Mary’s body.
Ralph Lynch was indicted and later found guilty of Mary’s murder. Lynch received the death penalty. This sentence was recently upheld by the Ohio Appellate Court.
Quatisha Maycock-age 5 years
In November of 1998, Quatisha lived with her mother, Shandelle, in Carol City, Florida which is near Miami. Quatisha came from a very attentive family that loved her very much, especially Shandelle.  Her teacher described the little girl, who loved school, as “beautiful”, “sweet” and as an “ideal kindergarten student”. She was loved by all of her classmates.
Harrel Franklin Braddy, was a violent career criminal who was twice convicted of attempted murder. He was out of prison because of an “early release” program.   None of this was known to Shandelle Maycock who met Braddy at a Church function.  Braddy befriended Quatisha’s mother and became violent when Shandelle rebuffed his advances. He kidnapped them and viciously beat and choked Shandelle and left her for dead. He drove off with Quatisha. Her body was later found floating in a canal with her arm missing and alligator bites to her head. Shandelle survived. Braddy was indicted for Quatisha’s murder and for the attempted murder of Shandelle. The State sought the Death penalty but there is no further information known regarding the outcome of his trial.
In Loving Memory of Tesslynn O’Cull (above) (1994-1997)
Tesslynn was barely 3 years old, when she was murdered, in June of 1997, in Oregon. This beautiful baby was both tortured and sexually abused by her own mother (Stella Kiser) and her mothers boyfriend (Jesse Compton), who were both drug users. In fact, the condition of this toddler’s body was so horrific, that at the trial, the State Medical Examiner broke down and cried describing Tesslynn’s wounds. As well as being sexually abused, she had an injury to every part of her body. This including a broken back, ruptured liver, rope burns on her hands and feet, burns, likely from a propane torch, to her genital area, hundreds of burns from an electrical shock device and numerous stab wounds and bruises.
Stella Kiser was convicted and sentenced to life without parole. Jesse Compton received the death penalty for murdering Tesslynn
A Poem For A Beautiful Child
A bud the gardener gave us
A pure and lovely child
He gave it to our keeping
To cherish undefiled
But just as it was opening
To the glory of the day
Down came the Heavenly Gardener
And took our bud away
He had been shot and beaten.
Felicia’s whereabouts were unknown for 2 years until a hunter found her remains miles from her home. In August of 2003, Chad Green and his father Billy Green, neighbors to the Elliott’s, were both indicted with the family’s murder as well as Felicia’s kidnapping. Chad took a plea bargain in exchange for testifying against his father. On 5/21/04, Billy Dale Green was convicted of 4 counts of capitol murder and kidnapping. On 5/24/04, he was sentenced to death by lethal injection. Chad Green will only get 40 years.  At the trial, it was revealed that, in addition to watching her mother and brother killed, little Felicia was taken alive from the house, so that the Greens could rape her. She was duct taped, hands, mouth and feet and kept alive inside a trash can for two days before being killed by Billy Green.!!!!!! Unbelievable!!!!!!!
